چکیده

‘ITHE partial thromboplastin time assay (PTT) as developed by Langdell et al. (1) has proved to be a very usef ul test for studying the coagulatioll mechanism silice it C 11 reveal tile al)SellCe of any factor except Factor VII and platelets. lnder rigorously cOlitrolled COll(litiOlIS, the reproducibility of tile test is satisfactory. However, any change ill tile surface of the svl’inge, test tube, etc., with which the blood comes in contact will affect tile results. To eliminate variation ill results caused by these surface effects, there has been a considerable number of attempts in the past few years to perform the test under conditions which would assure maximum activation of tile system and therefore eliminate the surface effect. Waa1er (.2) undertook all extensive investigation of the problem ill order to overcome difficulties which he encountered when using the “cephalin time” system. He describes a method for measurement of a plasma activity developed on contact which he terms the “activation product.” The importance of surface in various modifications of the PTT has also been emphasized by other workers (3-5). 111 his book, Nossel (6) discusses contact factors and tile effect of foreign surfaces. The purpose of this study was to investigate the varial)les that can also exist in activation tests and to descril)e a reliable, reproducible system for carryillg out these assays.

Determination of Biological Activity of Recombinant Reteplase Using Clot Lysis Time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT) Lysis Methods: A Comparative Study

Recombinant plasminogen activator (reteplase) is a third generation thrombolytic agent which has been used on coronary artery thrombosis and acute myocardial infarction. Clot lysis assay is usually considered as a unique method to evaluate biological activity of reteplase. In this study biological activity of reteplase was determined by APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time) lysis method....

Laboratory Methodologic Approach in Prolonged Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time Test

The pathological activated partial thromboplastin time test is a data that we can find in all clinical laboratories routinely. The hemato-coagulative clinical case here reported aims to point out how the laboratory can provide a correct diagnosis by methodological rational setting and, consequently, carry out an appropriate therapy, or reassure the patient that the pathological data will not ca...

Evaluation of Antiphospholipid Antibodies and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time in Women with Adverse Outcome of Pregnancy

Adverse outcome of pregnancy is a potentially dangerous complication of conception and affects 15-20% of pregnancies. According to recent studies increased level of blood antiphospholipids antibodies, if accompanied by predisposing factors, can be an adverse event in human pregnancy. The aim of the present study was to compare the maternal serum levels of anticardiolipin and antiphosphatidyl se...

Comparison of two laboratory tests in the control of anticoagulant therapy.

A prospective, randomized trial is described in which the usefulness of two tests in the control of anticoagulant therapy is compared. Fifty-two patients were controlled by the one-stage prothrombin time and 55 by the activated partial thromboplastin time. There was no significant difference in the incidence of bleeding between the two groups. When bleeding did occur, it was more often reflecte...
